Liskeard Old Cornwall Society
Inaugurated October 26th 1928

Liskeard Old Cornwall Society is one of some 46 independent societies in the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies. The OCS movement was founded to help ensure the survival of the distinctive culture and heritage of Cornwall. The motto of the OCS is "Gather up the fragments that are left that nothing be lost" referring to the past culture, history, arts, customs, language etc.

Membership if the Liskeard OCS is open to anyone; the only prerequisite being a interest in Cornwall and a willingness to help 'gather the fragments'.

Liskeard OCS membership costs just £5.00 a year, with a £1.00 donation at each meeting. Meetings are held, from November to April, in St. Martin's Church Hall at 7.00pm usually on the second Friday in the month.
During the Summer months there are 'pilgrimages' and events, often in the company of other OCS Federation members -see our Programme
If you are interested in becoming a member, why not come along to one of the meetings, or call Committee Member Dave Howard on 01579 347958

Liskeard OCS has an extensive collection of archives which are held at the Stuart House Arts and Heritage Centre, Liskeard www.stuarthouse.org.uk,
and the Society works closely with the Liskeard and District Museum www.liskeard.gov.uk/heritage.htm
Looking after the archives is our Recorder, John Rapson on 01579 343595, who is always willing to answer questions or receive information.

The journal of the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies is 'Old Cornwall'-published twice a year. Recent issues have contained articles featuring Liskeard.
Our own Yvonne Gilbert wrote about Stargazey pie, traditionally eaten on Tom Bawcock's Eve, with pilchard heads protruding from the pastry.
There was a review of the book about the fortune of the Lyne family -John Lyne was master of Liskeard Grammar School- the wealth coming from their glass factory in Portugal.
Eileen Crouch outlined the career of eminent Liskeard architect Henry Rice and highlighted his prolific professional output in the town and beyond.
